Data mining and predictive models are at the heart of successful information and product search, automated merchandizing, smart personalization, dynamic pricing, social network analysis, genetics, proteomics, and many other technology-based solutions to important problems in business.

The Data Mining and Applications Graduate Program introduces many of the important new ideas in data mining and machine learning, explains them in a statistical framework, and describes some of their applications to business, science, and technology.

Note: Course offerings may be subject to change. You do not need to enroll in the program to take the courses. You may enroll in any courses if you meet its prerequisites.

Earning the Certificate

  • Earn a Stanford Graduate Certificate in Data Mining and Applications
  • Take all courses for graduate credit and a grade
  • Receive a B (3.0) or better in each course
  • Courses must be taken for 3 units of credit to qualify for program application

NOTE: As of November 12, 2020, STATS290 will no longer be offered and it is now removed from the DMA Graduate Program. The course will continue to count towards the program for those students who successfully took it in the past. For any questions, please reach out to our Student Services team.


  • Introductory courses in each of the three following areas: statistics or probability, linear algebra, computer programming (E.g. STATS 60, MATH 51, CS 105 or equivalent.)
  • A conferred Bachelor’s degree with an undergraduate GPA of 3.3 or better.
